The Number 5 in the tradition
The 5 is the number of motion, change, and freedom. Where the 4 builds and stays, the 5 moves on. The Pythagorean Pentad is the principle of adventure, the meeting of even and odd, the human at the center of the four elements.
Hermetically the 5 is ruled by Mercury, the messenger, the patron of travelers, traders, translators, and tricksters. The Pentad is also the geometric form of the human body (the four limbs and the head), and so the 5 is sometimes called the number of humanity itself.
As a Destiny number
A 5 Destiny is a summons to motion. The bearer is built for travel, languages, transitions, new disciplines. The shadow is the difficulty of completion; the gift is that the 5 will see more of life, in every sense, than most.
