What is a Life Path number?+
The Life Path number is the most important number in a Pythagorean numerology chart. Drawn from the date of birth, it describes the arc encoded in the day, month, and year of arrival. Where the Destiny number speaks to the mission of the name, the Life Path speaks to the journey of the bearer.
How is the Life Path number calculated?+
Reduce the month, day, and year separately, then sum them and reduce again. For example, October 21, 1985 becomes 10 → 1, plus 21 → 3, plus 1985 → 1+9+8+5 = 23 → 5. Sum: 1 + 3 + 5 = 9. The Life Path is 9. Master numbers (11, 22, 33) are preserved when they appear and are never reduced further.
What does my Life Path number mean?+
Each number corresponds to one of nine archetypes (plus three master numbers). The 1 is the Sovereign, the 2 the Companion, the 3 the Voice, the 4 the Foundation, the 5 the Wanderer, the 6 the Hearth, the 7 the Mystic, the 8 the Crown, the 9 the Vessel. The full meaning includes a planetary correspondence, an element, and an interpretation of how the number lives in the bearer.
Is the Life Path number the same as the destiny number?+
No. The Life Path is drawn from the date of birth; the Destiny is drawn from the letters of the full name. The two together form the foundation of a numerological reading, and they often point in different directions, which is what makes a reading interesting.
What if my Life Path is 11, 22, or 33?+
These are the master numbers. They are rare and they carry both unusual gift and unusual demand. The 11 is the master of vision and intuition; the 22 is the master builder; the 33 is the master teacher and healer. A separate guide to them lives in the Journal.
