Questions

On the name change

Does changing a name change the numerology?+

Yes. The Destiny, Soul Urge, and Personality numbers are all drawn from the letters of the name. Change the spelling and the numbers shift. Marriage, legal name changes, stage names, even adopted nicknames all carry their own numerological signature.

Does the old name disappear?+

No. The classical tradition holds that the name received at birth sets the foundation, and any later name builds on that foundation. A new name is read as an additional chart layered on top of the original, not as a replacement.

How long until a new name "takes effect" numerologically?+

The numbers update instantly; the lived experience of the new chart takes longer. Most numerologists say the new name needs to be the dominant one used (legal documents, daily introductions) for about a year before the new chart fully expresses. Until then, both charts are active in some measure.

Should I change my name based on the numbers?+

The Pythagorean tradition does not teach that bad numbers must be escaped or that good numbers must be sought. A name change should be driven by personal meaning first, with the numerology as one informed input. Use this calculator to know what the change is bringing, not to decide whether to change.

What about marriage and middle names?+

The full legal name on official documents is the primary chart. If you adopt a spouse's surname, the chart updates. If you drop or change a middle name, the chart updates. Many people considering marriage run their chart with the proposed married name before committing, simply to know.
